Comfort, functionality, fine aesthetics: the suggestions by Molteni&C for the sleeping area
If the Molteni&C universe revolves around wood, its bedroom collections are the foundations on which the company has consolidated its identity, developing it as time passes. In the 1950s, the brand made a name for itself by manufacturing bedrooms and wardrobes, a segment of the furniture market that continues to account for its core business, with 50% of its income.
In 80 years of business, the company has developed methodologies and processes that are increasingly more cutting edge than ever, without ever losing sight of the legacy of tradition. This is clearly visible to anyone observing the collections of Molteni&C: created by leading architects and designers, they have evolved over the years to become increasingly beautiful. Rational furnishing solutions, up to date with the times, and enhanced by details with an artisanal imprint. The wardrobe changes and turns into a storage container for the sleeping area, acquiring its own independent, expressive identity thanks to the possibility of personalising the finishes, equipment and sizes.
The Gliss Quick series, a regular in the catalogue since 2010, is a true passepartout system: fully modular, it offers customisable opening systems, available both in swing and sliding door versions. The exterior can be composed of various different types of doors, including Wing, designed by Dante Bonuccelli or Anta 45°complanare by Ron Gilad, characterised by its perimeter edge which is used as a handle. Corner, end and bespoke units make the line particularly versatile, while the range of textured finishes and colours opens the pathway to a wealth of possibilities for customising wood, glass, mirrors and lacquered materials.
A kind of product that is increasingly being requested and adored, the walk-in wardrobe joins the Molteni&C repertoire in the form of the Gliss Walk-In version. It enables the user to design tailor-made compositions right down to the last centimetre, with solutions that can be placed directly against the wall, or finished with the addition of back elements. The freedom with which the equipment inside can be arranged makes this an extremely flexible solution, offering a flawless, aesthetically impeccable answer to all storage requirements.
The same goes for Gliss-Up, the innovative bedroom system proposed by Molteni&C in a bid to turn the conventional concept of the wardrobe on its head: the storage units are attached directly to the wall, freeing up a space on the floor which can be filled with shelving. This is a design by Patricia Urquiola, who also created the Clip bed for the brand. Sleek and enveloping, it encompasses base, footboard and reclinable headboard in a single form.
The Ribbon, Fulham and Nick series of beds are state-of-the-art: designer models, presented in 2015, in which attention to detail and the careful selection of the materials achieves fine tailor-made effects. The designs are fruit of partnerships with some of the most interesting figures in the international scene, recovering the tradition and experience of the brand.
Vincent Van Duysen is the creative mind behind the fabric Ribbon bed. The ultimate softness, combined with a modern design, for a frame with a tall headboard and soft upholstery that make it a product of grand contemporary flair. The upholstery, in fabric or leather, is attached to a ribbon that runs round the entire perimeter of the headboard and base, functional from both a structural and aesthetic point of view.
A classic and contemporary piece of furniture, Fulham designed by Rodolfo Dordoni, stands out thanks to the solid wood details of the feet and its enveloping headboard. The latter, a distinctive element in fabric or leather, surrounds the user with a comfortable cradling environment in which to rest, read or watch TV in total relaxation. The design is complete with an ottoman that can be positioned at the foot of the bed.
Nick, the bed conceived by Luca Nichetto, is characterised by an original aesthetic balance and is fruit of a design process focused on proportions. Its structural elements, in chromed metal, give the whole piece a lightweight feel. The contrasting seams, on the headboard and around the base, underline its precise measurements. The upholstery in fabric and leather offer possibilities for personalisation.
